Medicaid health plans are beginning to pay for indirect healthcare. Services such as meals, transportation, housing and education. Environmental factors heavily influence individual health. Those who are less educated tend to have worse health, which is one of the reasons that Medicaid is going to start assisting patients in getting their GED.

Another reason for this new development is that many states are implementing policies that allow health plans to share in their cash savings. This is causing insurers to address environmental factors that impact health.
