U.S. health care systems are a huge target for hackers due to the sensitive information that they carry. Data breaches are extremely costly and in 2016 $6.2 billion was lost by U.S. health care systems due to breaches. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is aiming to reduce the number of breaches by providing voluntary cybersecurity practices.

They have several volumes of information on how to protect patient information and how to manage threats. The publication is the culmination of 150 government and private health care and cybersecurity experts. This information is available to health care organizations of all sizes.
